First Steps to a Solid Design

The mechanical system may be hidden away in a remote area unseen day to day, yet every month the cash paid for utilities will reveal the truth about the design. Building owners tend to shy away from what they may not understand leaving the decision to the installing contractor. If you do not receive a written heating and cooling load calculation report - at a bare minimum - from your contractor- STOP! Go go no further until you do. Why? Rule of thumb and experience are great for general conversation but when you design for specific climatic conditions, gallon per minute flow rates, supply water temperatures and a host of design criteria, rule of thumb and experience are not design parameters. Failure to receive such reports may cost you many times the savings you thought your high efficiency radiant system would yield.

Radiant Heating Load Calculation Reports for right sizing and system selection:

  • Radiant Heat Loss Report
  • Radiant Heating Design Report
  • Zoning Report

These reports should be specifically completed using your building blue print and ASHRAE specifications.
